Betta coccina, also known as the scarlet betta and red wine betta, is a true wild species unrelated to the common betta splendens. Betta coccina may be kept in small schools as long as there is enough space for pairs and competitive males to have their own area. Native to Malaysia, these bettas require lower pH water, below 7, and will eat betta pellets and flakes.
